Kate Hollands – Expert Voice Teacher | Vocal Health Specialist
Kate Hollands is a highly qualified and experienced singing teacher, voice specialist, and singer, originally from West Yorkshire and now based in Manchester, UK. With over 20 years of experience in vocal training, performance, and vocal health, Kate has helped thousands of singers—from professional singers to beginners and children—develop strong, healthy, and expressive voices.
Kate holds a BA (Hons) Degree in Musical Theatre and is trained in acting, stagecraft, and a wide range of performance techniques. She began her professional journey in 2004 training with Seth Riggs (Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder), legendary creator of Speech Level Singing (SLS), and his team of Master Teachers. Between 2004 and 2013, she became one of the highest-level SLS-certified instructors in the UK.
In 2013, when the Institute for Vocal Advancement (IVA) was founded by world-renowned vocal coaches including Jeffrey Skouson (The Killers, Panic at The Disco) and Spencer Welch, Kate was invited to join as both a teacher and the regional representative for Northern UK. From 2013 to 2020, she oversaw the development and training of other IVA teachers in the region, frequently hosting masterclasses and teacher education events at her own Pro Voice Studios, which she founded in 2008.
In 2016, Kate achieved Mentor Level with the IVA—the highest level of certification within the organisation—following over a decade of intensive training and assessment, including a rigorous final examination in the United States. She remains one of only a few vocal coaches in Europe to hold this elite qualification.
Kate’s deep understanding of the voice and good technique allows her to rapidly assess vocal tendencies and provide highly specific, targeted exercises to correct imbalances and build vocal strength, correct muscular coordination and flexibility. She works closely with Master SLS teacher Greg Enriquez (Michael Jackson, Britni Spears) and continues to train regularly to keep her skills sharp and current.
In addition to her work with singers, Kate has undertaken extensive study with ENTs, osteopaths, dentists, and jaw specialists to understand how structural and physiological issues affect the voice. She is highly trained and experienced in vocal rehabilitation and is recommended by professionals at:
-
The Speech and Language Department at Bradford Royal Infirmary
-
Cote Royd Dental Practice, Huddersfield
-
The Old Hall Clinic (Philip Owen, Osteopath), Macclesfield
She has supported clients through a wide range of voice-related health concerns, including vocal nodules, polyps, paralysis, paresis, and spasmodic dysphonia.
Outside the studio, Kate is an accomplished performer. She has been singing publicly since the age of 14 and has performed across the UK and Europe, both as a solo artist and with bands including ALM:UK and I AM FUTURE (formerly RPM). She has appeared on multiple albums as both a lead and backing vocalist, and is experienced in studio work, vocal arranging, and vocal production.
Kate regularly delivers workshops in vocal technique, performance, and songwriting to schools, colleges, charities, and arts organisations. She has served as a guest judge at several national singing competitions and has presented to audiences of several hundred people.
Passionate, personable, and deeply knowledgeable, Kate is committed to helping every singer—whether amateur or professional—achieve their full vocal potential. She balances a rigorous technical approach with warmth and encouragement, ensuring that her students feel confident, supported, and inspired.
When she’s not teaching or performing, Kate enjoys spending time with her husband Michael and their two young boys.
Learning this technique has transformed my voice and therefore me as a singer and performer. After being stuck in a light, airy voice, only good for light classical music or folk, I now have the freedom to sing the styles of music I enjoy the most such as soul and RnB’. I am so delighted I can share this technique with others, unlocking voices and helping them on their vocal journey.’ Kate Hollands
